Meet the Chef

Nina Longhini

From the age of 20, Nina was already hosting formal dinner parties in her home, baking bread and cooking from scratch on a daily basis for her husband and three daughters.

She was recognized as the neighborhood 'Martha' by baking and decorating cakes, delivering home cooked meals for new parents and passing out gifts of canned creations from the fruits of her home garden.

Nina completed her formal studies in Culinary Arts 1993 and in the meantime, taught cooking classes at a local park district and arranged food demonstrations for various organizations.

In the early 90's she began A Slice Above the Rest, a service specializing in all occasions, as well as wedding cakes and pastries. She was banquet chef at the Patrick Haley Mansion, Grand Ballroom at Joliet Union Station and Chateau Bu Sche.

In 2004, she created Elegant Tea Parties, a tea party catering experience. Seeking to diversify her background, she got out of the kitchen and worked as Director of Catering for a major hotel chain from 2007 to 2013. This experience enabled her to plan and execute events on a professional level from small parties of 20 to large weddings of 400.

"My real passion is cooking at a more intimate level with quality, fresh ingredients for friends and family than for large events. Being a personal chef is the perfect outlet for my unique style, creativity, and passion for healthy eating.'"
